About Forrest
Forrest Rutherford is a sports writer for The Messenger and a native of Versailles, Ky. A 1999 graduate of Woodford County High School and a 2003 graduate of the University of Kentucky, Rutherford began working in Madisonville in March of 2008 after a nearly four-year stint as the sports editor of The Woodford Sun. Aside from a short detour into politics in the spring of 2007 as a finance manager for a U.S. Congressional campaign, he has dedicated his post-collegiate life to writing about sports and the athletes who play them, along with a few irreverent columns along the way.
A lifelong fan of the University of Kentucky, the Minnesota Vikings and the New York Yankees, Rutherford has proven to be the perfect inner-office foil to lead reporter Don Perryman, as the two seemingly always fall on either side of intense rivalries (though the Spin Doctor does not root for the Green Bay Packers). The sports rivalry has even carried over across the pond, with Rutherford championing the cause of Liverpool FC, while Perryman pledges his support to Manchester United. Rutherford would like to develop a good sports rivalry with fellow reporter Nick Brockman, but unfortunately the Ohio native currently roots for at least 17 baseball teams, making the task nearly impossible.
Outside of sports, Rutherford spends his time obsessing over Radiohead, watching way too much Law and Order: Criminal Intent, and dominating the competition on FIFA ‘09 on X-Box 360.

Clearly, I have three favorite baseball teams as listed in my “about me” section.

You conveniently glossed over your 1990’s love affairs with the Toronto Blue Jays, Baltimore Orioles and Tampa Bay (Devil) Rays.
